Hello folks, Chad Burns here. I wanted to take a moment and wish everyone a (now slightly belated) happy winter holiday season. Almost missed it having our heads down working hard on making L5 as increadble as you folks deserve it to be.
Here is a little video postcard from Tom and Stan...
Chad Burns here, with a little update on L5 for you. We have been working feverishly on the Post-production for the pilot and it is looking amazing!!It has been a lot of work, with the whole crew pushing themselves and the level of quality shows thru.
First let’s get some numbers out of the way…overall we are about 80% done with the VFX and rendering.
What does that mean? Let me put it to you like this…unlike most productions, there is not a single shot in L5 that doesn’t have some VFX and Post-production work in it. Now, most of that work is on digital extensions of the sets or the addition of elements we couldn’t capture in-camera (zero-g objects, displays and monitors) but some of it is the realization of complete 3D vistas…Like the Argo and the L5 Colony. And let me tell you, those are some impressive vistas.
But enough jabber from me…let’s look at some pretty pictures!!
Here is a glimpse at the Bridge of the Argo during a tense moment…
And a look at the Argo Communications Room.
Here are our intrepid explorers making their entrance into the larger mystery of L5.
Here is look at the HUD and Data Displays in the Mark IV EMU Spacesuit…
In upcoming updates, we’ll be showing you the next trailer and disclosing the plan for the release of the Pilot Episode.
Stay tuned! Thing are going to be happening fast in the near future!
A huge thanks again to all the folks who have help us by donating to our Kickstarter and Indie Go Go campaigns...we couldn't do any of this without you!

We've partnered up with IADT, their wonderful staff is helping us with our rendering needs, Stas Poritskiy from IADT is optimizing all of our render files for the Argo and Colony shots. We are working out a pipeline and compositing template for the interior colony shots. Sorry for the lack of updates everyone, L5 is moving ahead every day in leaps and bounds. We are doing stuff that has never been done before on this kind of budget, it's definitely a huge challenge but we are up for it. I wish I could post updates, but they would look like this:
"Today we converted all .jpg texture maps to .map files to optimize mental ray's RAM usage! And tomorrow, we're going to try to re-render a bunch of stuff with better raytracing!"
More REAL updates to come soon. Thank you everyone for your encouragement and support! We are working on this literally around the clock, often at the expense of eating and paying rent! WOOO FILM MAKING!!!
Just wanted to drop a note to let you all know that work is moving along.
The rough cut is nearing completion, and the most challenging of the VFX shots are being chewed on.
There will be some new Diaries in a few weeks, and maybe even a trailer!!
However the most important work still has to be done, but we need your help.
Just as we could not have gotten this far without your help and support, we can't reach our next milestones with you!
Please let all your friends know about L5...and you have lots of options.
